Friday File

Yesterday was quite eventful here in lil ole OKC. Around 4pm the tornado sirens went off..it’d been just raining crazylike all day long. Constant. Sometimes gently, sometimes with rage, but all the while it was constant. We talk a lot about rain here mostly because as Oklahoman’s/Southerners, that’s what we do. But we have been in a serious, serious drought the last three years, so this really is newsworthy. But I digress.

We’d had some nasty tornadoes, killing two people in the panhandle the night before. This was that line of storms. All of a sudden the sirens go off, we at the salon race to the back room to turn on Gary England. ***SIDEBAR***I cannot stand Gary England. I don’t care for his reporting, I don’t care for his personality, I don’t care for him at. all. period. I love Channel 4 with Mike Morgan and my
emmy-winning-storm-chasing-boyfriend David Payne. Anyway, there were reports of tornadoes just dropping out of the clouds right on top of homes, some homes close to where some stylists live. It was a titch chaotic for awhile. We ourselves weren’t in any danger, it was way northwest of us, but friends, loved ones, etc. Apparently there were really no warnings for these yesterday. Wrapped in rain, they just flopped down and worked it good. North of us there was quite a bit of damage, Cashion and parts of that area.

Welcome to Springtime in Oklahoma.

For those of you unadjusted to this, yes. It’s freaking scary. For those of us who’ve lived it our whole lives, it’s any day that ends in “y” unless it’s right on top of you and you’re in the beer walk-in sitting on cold ass kegs of beer with your best friend and your boyfriend and looking around at all the beer that does NOT twist off and you without your beer opener so you drink a stupid zima. . . then that’s sometimes scary!

If it makes the national news, then it’s been pretty bad somewhere and that sucks. The property damage is crap too, but at least you’re alive for it. We know this, and we understand. I will always keep you up to date re: spring weather, either here or on the phone…breathe in breathe out move on.

Just a clarification from yesterday’s post. I will NOT be ceremoniously cutting off my fingers on June 8 to celebrate the opening of my boyfriend George Clooney’s new movie Ocean’s 13. Been there. Done that. The boyfriend was Bobby and it was 1985. 22 years ago. I would however, gladly throw myself across an alter for any kind of sacrificial fornication that would be needed by him (George, not Bobby) at any given time. Let it be written. Let it be said.

Had dinner with Clemo last night. What a joy!! How hysterical it is to be with someone you haven’t seen in 8 years, compare stories, and fill in the blanks…I had a lot of blanks as did he. It was a memory jig saw puzzle and we had a blast putting it all together. I decided NOT to cook, we went to Texas Roadhouse instead. So good. Phil went too, we had a delightful time. I am still processing our visit, and am writing a longer post with specifics that I’ll put up in a few days. Meanwhile, these are for you Kizz…

Clemo’s A Comin’!! Clemo’s A Comin’!!!

After I get off work tonight, I’m going to the hotel to pick up Clemo. Talked to him last night, and because it was my late night to work, we didn’t hook up. I did tell him, because we’re due some severe spring Oklahoma weather, that if there were tornados, I’d come get him and take him with me to the safe place. If we’re going down, he’s not going alone in a hotel room!!! It suited his fabulously twisted sense of humor just fine. I’m excited to see him, and will be sure to post pics soon! Can’t decide what to fix for dinner. . . may be too wet to grill out. . . we’ll see!!

Till then, Huzzah and Happy Thursday and I love George Clooney (who’s Oceans 13 comes out on June 8 which is also the date that I cut off my fingers)

Ten Things Tuesday: Guilty Pleasures T.V. and Movies

I have been working on a Ten Things blog for a few days now, cutting and pasting and notating all over the place. Just as I finished it last night, thinking how good I was to be all “ahead of the game” I hit publish and it said “not so fast miss smarty pants! there’s some shit ain’t right upinhere.” AAAAAAAAAND Flop. Gone. All I had done. I was deflated.

Not to be discouraged completely, I’ll do this one instead and come back to the meanblog next week or so.

Guilty Pleasures. So many to choose from, so I limited myself to just TV or Movies. Those things that you MUST watch when you’re flipping through the channels, even if you’ve seen them a bazillion times. . . and they may not be the finest works of art so you keep it to yourself…guilty pleasures. Take One.

1.)90210–It’s pretty widely known that this is my alltime favorite guilty pleasure. I’ve watched just about every ep, first run and reruns. The SoapNet will give you a bit everyday at 4, then give you a whole bunch on the weekends. God Bless Soapnet. I love Dylan McKay. I hate Brenda Walsh. Donna Martin Graduates!!!

2.)Days of Our Lives–I’ve been watching this “story” since I was five years old. I started with my Baptist preacher of a grandpa, PaPa Okie. It used to come on at 12:30. Sigh. I got to actually meet Bo/Peter Reckell when I was in the 7th grade. He kissed my cheek. I have a Polaroid of it. I don’t watch so much everyday as I do just whenever. It’s that comfort thing. After all these years, Bo and Hope are still fighting and getting back together, Marlena is still flinging that longass hair around and sighing ever so daintily while solving psychological mysteries throughout Salem.

3.)Overboard–Goldie and Kurt. I LOVE this show. I watch it every time it’s on tv on a Sunday afternoon. It’s delightful. Elk Snout. Bwa ha ha ha

4.)Angels in the Outfield–This is another one I always watch. Danny Glover, the kid from Third Rock and Tony Danza and Jim from Taxi as the angel. The speech at the end from the foster mom makes me cry every single time. I know. I know.

5.) Sister Acts I & II–WHOOPEE! I love that woman. Mix in some nuns, some guns and some singing and I’m all in.

6.)Buffy/Angel–Brings me back to a time when one night a week meant margaritas and Vamp Patrol with Kizz. Then long emails dissecting each ep until we were just all frothed up. Good Stuff.

7.)Sex and the City-Forever a connection between Gertrude and myself. Those girls…those shoes…those men. I always loved Big. Liked Adain, but was never a lifer with him. I loved Harry and Steve as well.

8.)Barefoot Contessa–The Food Network is my crack cocaine. Ina Garten is my pusher.

9.)The View–I tape this every day and watch it when I get home. Mostly just the Hot Topics section. Joy is my number one Fav. Rosie has brought this show into a new realm, and I’m digging it. I think if BaBa WaWa could just never speak again, it’s be too soon.

10.)Gilmore Girls–this show breaks my heart. I’ve watched forever. Slurped over all the fabulous writing, the pace, the chaos, the fabulous pop culture and literary references…Loralie resonates with me. No. I don’t have a kid. But that’s not all of who she is…Sookie, Luke, Rory, Lane…all the kooky townsfolk…I love Stars Hollow. I’d move there in a heartbeat, as long as the Palladino’s were writing it.

Atta Girl!

Just got word that my best good fried Reno in NYC is being called out to her first commercial audition. This is BIG news people! She doesn’t have a blog but you can feel free to leave her good luck wishes on this one. She’s a regular reader and will be able to see them!

She soooooo deserves to get this and make some money and get all that agent/business stuff that comes along with it! Focus with me tomorrow to send her fabulous energy, radiating charm and absolutely NOTHING that remotely resembles a Dipsy Dumpster.

Blast From The Past

Just an average rainy Monday morning. Woke up at 6:30 and let all the cats outside and went back to bed. Woke up several hours later from a deep sleep to the crazy rain that was outside and jumped out of bed to let the cats back in…two drowned rats, one very wet beaver/sloth came in from the back, and one barely damp mama who had the smarts to hide on the covered front porch! ha! Anyways, getting ready to go weigh in (lost another 3 lbs! Woo Hoo!) and checked my email.

Clemo is in OKC!!! John is a friend of mine from the Saginaw days. He was a road manager in the same theatre troupe I was in, and we shared a house. Lots of stories. Lots of memories. We keep in touch scarcely, but still there is some contact. He had left an email with numbers and location. Apparently he’s here this week doing training for his new job?

That’s all I know. I’m going to contact him, and we will get together. How cool! It’ll be interesting to see him after all these years. I haven’t seen him since I left the house that day, to drive to Cincinnati then to home. Spring of 99. Time flies.

There will be more to come on this subject to be sure.

Lost the 3 lbs, which brings me to half way to my 10% goal.

HUZZAHH and Happy Monday.
and I love George Clooney.

When It Reigns It Pours

I went to see Reign Over Me today. 10:30 in the a.m. on a Sunday is way too early for me to do anything. . . and I am the first to complain and the first to admit that my input on the time went something along the lines of “doesn’t matter to me, any time is fine.”

I didn’t really mean that.

However, I’m so glad I got out of bed for this. The movie was layers of emotion and was so subtle and solid, that I didn’t really mind the somewhat slow pace of it. It was filmed in NYC, so that’s always a nice thing to watch on the screen. Adam Sandler and Don Cheadle were just perfect together. It’s been awhile since I’ve seen a “good one” and finally, I did today.

The music in this film is another character. Weaving in and out of scenes, I found myself really paying attention and saying, “I’m buying this.” However, to my dismay, the only original soundtrack is all instrumental. No Pearl Jam covering the title song, no Pretenders, no Springsteen, no Neil Young. (I think it was him.) Hopefully “they” will release one soon with all the featured music. Until then, go and listen to the title song. SO. GOOD.

“It’s Unbelieveably Important That We Get His Election Right”

I am heartsick to hear about Elizabeth Edwards. This woman, no matter what your political views, is an amazing show of grace and fortitude. I’ve always enjoyed her, followed her through the last campaign, through her first battle with the cancer, watched her PR junket for her book and have just been touched by her life.

I was one of the first to suspect that John Edwards would pull out of the campaign. To see them both together, to see their lives and the ups and downs they have been through, they seem the picture of the best things a relationship can be. While I’ve yet to put my full load in anybody’s wagon, I’m glad I still get to have him as an option.

This campaign, and the children, and the chemo…cannot imagine how it’s going to play out for her. Or for him.

There is that scene in The American President where the President and his chief of staff are playing pool:

President Andrew Shepherd: If Mary hadn’t died, would we have won three years ago?
A.J.: Would we have won?
President Andrew Shepherd: If we had to go through a character debate three years ago, would we have won?
A.J.: I don’t know. But I would have liked that campaign. If my friend Andy Shepherd had shown up, I would have liked that campaign very much.

Not to trivialize. Not to compare…really. But it’s what came to mind when I was thinking about how it would affect this current campaign and those to come. I guess only time will tell.

Good Luck to you Elizabeth Edwards. Strength and Light to you.

Lawn Yawn

I put out an entire bag of Scott’s Turf Feed stuff on my front yard two days ago. Now, it says that you should put it down on an already wet lawn, and not to put it down within 24 hours of rain. It’s been a little hit or miss here this week because this was our forecast: Have yet to see ONE DROP. Nada. Zilch. Bupkiss. Big. Fat. Zero.

STILL WAITING FOR THE RAIN.

Have not pulled out all the hoses and hooked up the sprinklers and really gotten into the yard season yet. . . because Mother Freakin Nature was taking care of that for me. (cue lightening strike)

So anyway, allegedly around 11pm tonight it supposed to arrive and let’s just cross fingers Bella doesn’t encounter hail. (cue Debbie downer music wa wa waaaaaa)

I overslept today,so didn’t get to post anything. I am really tired tonight and am completely focused on my grass and how it could possibly be burning up without some ding dang water so. . . that’s what you’re getting.

Here’s to Friday for all the Normal Folk. Enjoy the beginning of your weekend. Peyton Manning is hosting SNL along with Okie Carrie Underwood. Have set the DVR to tape it. I will be working and then going to a Pass Your Plate party tomorrow night, working Saturday and going to see the Jewel Box Theatre’s production of Beehive on Saturday evening, Sunday I will be seeing Reign Over Me with MLynn and Nan, cutting Alli’s hair at some point then who the hell knows. Apparently I’m a busy girl. Who knew.

Huzzahh to you and I love George Clooney.

WHY M.C.A.

I need to be at the YMCA. I do. It’s 8am, I don’t work until 11 or so and I NEED to move my arse.

Why do I have such a block on this right now? I wanna know WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY? It’s something, that’s for sure because I used to just jump right up and don the streachy clothes and head on over.

So far today, I climbed out of bed at around 5am due to the ungodly snoring that was next to me. He’s got to have a bruse the size of my fist and feet from all the kicking I did to get him to shut up. . . finally I took pity on us both and moved to the couch. Then the babies were whining so I let them out. Then I just gave it up, made some coffee and turned on the tv where I proceeded to watch the last two days of The View and caught the weather forecast on channel 4. The only thing remotely interesting about that was when Rosie jumped down the Young One’s throat for voicing. . . HER VIEW! I’m ususally a big Rosie fan, but she was in my opinion, out of line. Whatever. I should be the guest host, then we could really rodeo.

But that’s it. Tv. Coffee. Cats. Oh, and laundry in the dryer to wear today, but nothing that is KEEPING me from going to get on the treadmill.

whine.
spit.
hiss.
whine more.
wa wa waaaaaaaa.

I need to get a book for work today. When I left yesterday, I only had two appointments. Both men. That is a total of 1 hour of work in my 9 hour day. Bleagh.

Here’s a question for you. I just got all my paperwork in the mail to get my Tag/Title/Excise Tax taken care of for Bella. (That’s her name) My question is…personalized plates? I’ve always been pretty annoyed with vanity plates, but the thought of one saying MKAEP doesn’t make me sick. But, do I want everyone knowing it’s me? Like there’s a big mob of people tracking my every move. I probably could just get the one they give me. I’d like to get the breast cancer support one…but do I want a pink and blue plate on my cinnamon car? Now THATS vanity. Whatever.

Boreing today. Huzzuh to you and I love George Clooney.
