Bills Paid on Humping Day

I love it when I am able to get all the bills paid. And even though there isn’t much left over, there is a bit and for one more month, all of this is MINE! feels good. I look forward to a day when there are more bills to pay, for instance HEALTH INSURANCE!!! I need some. Haven’t had any for years. Probably since I left the beer business. Gah. Drives me nuts. But I’m doing better each month, even surviving the Black September so I should be able to look into it and get some next year.

This is my morning to sleep late and putz around and not work until 12. But once a month we have a salon wide education class. It’s not MANDATORY, per se, but everybody pays ten bucks a month whether you attend or not. So…today we begin our hands-on class. I have my model. I have however, left all my supplies at work. Gah. But I have shears and a cape and a hair dryer here. I’ll just beg borrow or buy the rest of it. I have a few appointments this afternoon and evening, so that’s good.

Hey!

This time next week, I’ll be waking up in NYC!!!! and will have been there for four days already! BRING IT ON!!! I’m excited. Pretty calm. There is a little bit of anxiety for me in the getting to the airport and getting parked and getting thru security. The packing is something I can do in my sleep by now. If I forget something, I’ll borrow or buy it there. But I just always have a little twinge about timing and being late. So I’m usually well over the hour early, but whatever. We fly early in the morning so as to get to NYC just after noon, and the same in returning. My feeble minded logic in that is, if the airlines start getting jacked up and canceling flights, it’s usually not the first one of the day!

Ok kids. Gotta get in the shower and get this day started! Happy Happy Joy Joy! It’s Humping Day! wahoooooooooooo!!

Ten Things Tuesday: Books on My Ottoman

Ok. Ok ok ok ok OKAY!!! It’s time to get back on the Ten Things wagon. I was checking out my sitemeter and followed some hits back to Mrs. Chili’s post. Mrs. Chili is a bf of Kizz so it is through her that I joined in to begin with.

Since I just randomly looked around the room for inspiration, this list will be the books on my ottoman. Some have been read completely. Some have been started and not finished. Some are brand new and haven’t even been opened yet. We’ll see if you’ve read any, and what your thoughts are.

10)Chronicles Volume 1 by Bob Dylan
haven’t read this, nor do I know much about it, but it was on the buy 2 get 1 table and I have always loved Dylan so that was enough for me to buy it.

9.)Born Standing Up–Steve Martin
What’s not to love about anything this man writes. I’ve heard great things on this and can hardly wait to crack it open.

8.) One of Ours–Willa Cather
the bookclub selection. As stated previously, only 23 pages into it.

7.)Between the Bridge and the River–Craig Ferguson
am a little over a quarter of the way into this and I really like it. Apparently not enough to not put it down, but in all fairness I got sidetracked by the next book.

8.)SexGod–Rob Bell
I’ve recently discovered this man. I love that he breaks down steroetypes about the Christian faith and how we worship. This book deals with relationships and in the most amazing turn, does not get preachy about it. His style is clear and comes from a place of kindness and discovery. It made me feel.

7.)Kitchen Confidential–Anthony Bourdain
Cannot wait to read this. It may scoot itself to the top of the list.

6.)Dreams of My Father–Barak Obama
I bought the last copies of his two books the other day. I want to know more about him, and though I think it’d be easier to listen to him via audio book, I’ve discovered some interesting things about his life. I want him to be my POTUS.

5.)October Issue of Vanity Fair
Ok. Not a book, but reading material nonetheless. I subscribed to this magazine when I moved into my house. I love it. It takes me awhile to get thru each issue but I always learn something and oooo the pretty Annie Lebowitz photographs!

4.)The Complete C.S. Lewis
I know I’ve read him before. But I can’t remember any of it. Not really. Have any of you read?

3.)Foder’s Travel Guide to New York.
It’s Rogers. I have all of his NYC books stacked neatly here ready to return, but while they await that trip, I’m perusing again.

2.)Velvet Elvis–Rob Bell
His first book that made me go…WOAH. I’m not the only one that feels this way about Mega-Six-Flags-Over-Jesus-Churches!

1.)Eat, Bitch and Wine
If any of you know me at all, you know my affinity for the cookbooks. This one was a gift from BonusMom last year and while I haven’t made anything out of it yet, I love reading it if only for the title!!

Whew. There. I know I listed the new books already in a previous post, but it is what it is. Have any of you read them? Thoughts? Comments?

Hey Chili!! Lookie here! I was a good girl and am back in the game!

Book Clubs and Bobs

I am feeling very intellectual and grown up tonight. So I thought I’d write about it because the feeling will soon dissipate and I’ll be doing Facebook stalking before we know it.

Tonight was the first, well MY first meeting of the book club. I went to the B&N that was the site of my going bananas yesterday, and sat at a table and drank overpriced coffee and waxed prophetically about a book that I’m only 23 pages into. HA! Remember folks, I’m an Actor/English Major so I can pretty much bullshit my way through anything AND use big words to further prove my intelligence.

I am in a group with ALL English teachers. Some still practicing, some retired. I am the youngest, if you don’t count the 3 month old grandchild that sat in tonight. I met four new people and got to know more about my neighbor, so that counts as five. The club meets every other Tuesday night at 6pm and goes for about an hour or just a little over. Thus far, there aren’t many who are just in love with the book. Not the Niles and Daphne kind of love. Maybe it will come with more reading. We’ll see.

But the thing is, I think they LIKED ME!! I felt antsy about doing this, something so new with total strangers. I even for a moment thought about just blowing it off and watching my DVR’s eps of True Blood (which I haven’t started yet but will do when I finish this) I’m glad I didn’t. I had some good things to say, and made a few valid points and when I felt like maybe things were winding down and losing interest, I threw in the fact that I’m going to New York on Saturday and they all thought I was very important and cool.

Ha. Suckers!!!

I think this will prove to be another grand adventure that will provide lots of blogging material, so stay tuned.

In other news, Mgirl cut my hair today. I have a BOB!!! Finally! The hair has grown to a length that looks normal and not like the aftermath of a tragic weed eater incident. I am very proud.

Time is drawing near to start working on travel details. Emails have been flowing between Chrome, Kizz and myself. Of course I’m all about when and where do we get to eat and what shows do I get to see. . . and the hair class. Getting very excited about learning something new to bring back for my clients. We’re going to do a makeshift salon on Monday evening probably, and cut some hair. My friend Seth, who I met thru the redhead, has moved there and will be joining the Kitchen Cut group as well.

This time last year, I was frazzled. I’d just really moved into the Frontier and was still spinning and figuring out my life and I remember it was all based around the NY trip. “When I get to NY…When I get back from NY” What an amazing year it’s been.

Ok, I think the coffee buzz is wearing off a little. I’m going in to settle down and move some laundry around off the couch, feed the livestock and watch some tv. Yes, I know I should be doing some reading but hell, I’ve got two weeks before the next deadline. (ever the English major…never read today what you can cram in the night before!)

Hope you had a great day. I love you. And I love George Clooney. Seriously, go see the movie. He’s a twisted little tweeker in it and I love him even more.

Barnes & Noble=bananas!!!

Slept in today. Waaaaaaayy in. Almost till noon. Lord but it felt good. I got up and went to eat lunch with Maegen and Huddy then on to run errands. I went to find a frame for my big giant Wonderboy pic. Hobby Lobby was doing a 50%off empty frames, and so I got one, had them add the glass and backing and hanger and got out of there with an amazing picture that was only 31 bucks!! It’s already hung on the wall and looks great. Though I’m not a fan of my face in it, the boys are delicious and I’m proud that it’s up.

I then hit the B&N. I have that bookclub meeting tomorrow and need to get the first part of this book done before we meet at 6pm. I kind of lost my mind. They had a tradepaper table that was buy 2 get the 3rd one free. So I bought

Bob Dylan Chronicles Vol 1
Kitchen Confidential-my boyfriend Anthony Bourdain
I Am Not Myself These Days-Josh Kilmer-Purcell

Then because I was hopped up on bargains I picked up

Born Standing Up–Steve martin
The Complete C.S. Lewis
SexGod-Rob Bell

Oh, and the bookclub book One of Ours, Willa Cather.

ahhhhhhh. makes me feel happy to have them here.

Hit the grocery for a few provisions to get me thru the week and came home to make stuffed bell peppers. I made up the recipe using ground turkey and brown rice and tons of veggies and spices. MMMMMMMMMMMM. just snarffed one down and it’s gooooooood!!

The movie last night was BRILLIANT!! I loved it. The Cohen Brothers did it again. And it made me miss John Malkovitch so much…tweeky little freak-man. I highly reccommend it!

Ok, I’m out. need to read and watch some new tv. I have no idea what’s on tonight but I do know lots of new stuff is premiering this week. Gotta get that dvr set for all of them!!!

Best Laid Plans…

So as it usually goes with plans…

Today was spent nursing my hungover friend back to normalcy. She just left about an hour ago. 7pm. So……my day was nothing like I’d planned. I didn’t run errands, I didn’t buy the frame. I was here. And while I honestly felt bad that she was ill, I have to be honest and say I was irritated that my day got shot to hell. I was bunched up and annoyed. I got over it.

The laundry is caught up. The house is cleaned and I finally got all that winter wardrobe out of my car that I’d been driving around with for a week or so. I watched the Colts here at my house and dang but that game was CRAZY!! I rewarded myself with chinese food and text with that new fella throughout the day. Turns out we’re going to see Burn After Reading at the 10pm show tonight down in Bricktown.

Don’t get crazy. It’s not a date. Just a hanging out. But I’m psyched about the movie. And now I feel guilty about feeling annoyed about my day. Things work out and rewards come without a delivery charge. I do feel bad about the food I ate, but I’ve thrown it out and managed to actually get some soup down my friend so she felt good enough to drive home.

New tv has begun. Fringe airs tonight with Kizz’s boyfriend Joshua Jackson. Slurp. Pacey. man I’ve missed his face on the telly! I totally missed recording my boyfriend on Saturday Night Live last night. Would have SWORN that I’d set the machine to record…best laid plans.

Oh well.

How was your day?

Social Social Social!!

Have had a busy one thus far…Friday things at work finally picked up. I’m making at least the first commission on this paycheck! GLORY!!! Went to Carpenter Square to watch a show and then went out for drinks and some late night nachos with my friend who is teching, the director and a woman who was in the show. Great conversation. Great night.

Saturday was just as busy, but I did get to see my mom and bonusdad for all of two seconds. They made a quick trip for a birthday party and stopped into the salon and brought me the pictures that I had taken with the Wonderboys. I think they turned out well. I really don’t love the pic of me. I think I look old and my hands look manly. but the boys are delicious. I want to go buy a frame for the 16×20 that I have.

Last night a group of us went to Buffalo Wild Wings to watch the OU game. We wound up staying and playing quarters at our table and laughing our hiney’s off. Then I peeled off and met Kris and the theatre guys at their house and played the shit out of some Wii. I have tennis elbow today. Gah. Stayed there till…wait for it…almost FOUR IN THE MORNING!!!!

Needless to say I didn’t go to try out the new church today. Did I tell you I was doing that? There are two here that I’ve been batting around in my head the last year or so. Turns out a dear redhead goes to one, and this new guy that I met a week or so ago works at the other one. That kind of put a twist on it. I didn’t want to look like I was stalking these two, but I really wanted to try the churches. I had a plan to drag Gert over here and have her go with to support but that fell thru and frankly, I chickened out. I did get up this morning. I felt tired, but fine. I could have gotten ready and gone. But I was chicken. Bok bok bok. I suck. Next weekend I will be waking up in NYC so I will shoot for the Sunday after that. I think I can I think I can I think I can. . .

Ok. I have to take care of a friend who drank too much last night. Must shuffle cars to and from and get her back into the land of the living. Gah. I’ve got the doors open and there is a beautiful fall breeze the house is semi clean. I’m going to finish up things with her, get laundry done, hit the B&N for my book club book and enjoy the day. I hope you do too…

Happy Happy Joy Joy

Just got home from laughing my ass off. Seriously. I am 1.8 pounds lighter today and I’m pretty sure that the laughing I did tonight shaved off another pound or so…

I know that my plans included comedy on the weekend. However, the redhead was up tonight at the club, and as things turned out his boss was in the audience along with our lovely first lady. I really wanted to bring people and fill up a table and laugh out loud and support the man. He is an amazing man, after all. yep yep.

Turns out he didn’t need any of my help. He was brilliant all on his own self. Fun-Knee. He threw in some new stuff tonight that was tight. His stuff that I’d heard before was even tighter than a virgin at a prison rodeo. good good good. timing. all of it. good. C2 came (i know I need better blog names for them but the muse has yet to strike. gah. I apparently have lost the witty) and they laughed and had a good time as well as Nan and M’Lynn. Our beloved gov was wearing some nice starch.

This may be a detail that most people would leave out, but for those who know me know that starch just…IS. Nice starched yellow shirt. jeans. boots. he was good and he was lookin’…good lookin! He and his wife seemed to have a grand time, and once the redhead introduced them the headlining comic had a field day with them. bwa ha ha ha. In the presence of blue bliss. M’Lynn said,”that man needs to ditch those suits and WEAR JEANS ALL THE TIME!”

I concur.

So tomorrow is Friday. Our dear Kizz is off to deal with life and death and singing. Thoughts and strength to you my friend. The weekend rolls around and that brings for me, theatre tomorrow and who knows on Saturday. I may just have to go again.

it was that. good.

but I may be partial.

600 Plus

The Circus hit it’s 600th post this week. Six Hundred posts, no drafts sitting in the log back there waiting. I went through and deleted all of those a few weeks ago. It’s amazing this little corner of my world where I write. I have become quite comfortable here…So. Happy 600th ya’ll!

This time last year I was in NYC. It was rainy there, just like it is here today. It was as if the city was just on quiet time. Somber had settled over each corner of each neighborhood. A group of us ducked into a place in Little Italy for lunch and there was a huge table full of NYPD and NYFD guys with their families and it was an amazing sight. Like something out of a movie. I was blessed to be there last year, and as it goes, will keep everyone close in my heart today.

I have a friend who moved from here to there. He worked at our memorial and is not working at their’s. I bet he doesn’t know “c’mere from sic’em” today. Gah.

Going to the theatre tonight. Freebie dress rehersal of Born Yesterday. Tomorrow night, going to C2 for Come Back to the Five and Dime Jimmmy Dean, Jimmy Dean. Sat is comedy with the redhead. It’s a full dance card folks! Hope yours is too.

weighing in today and have been what I THINK is pretty good this week. cross fingers and wish lightness!

Brand New Day!

Lookie here! Here I am! Got to sleep in a little, got some good strong coffee and it’s a brand new day. Gave back my honorary membership to the Funky Bunch and am ready to roll today.

I hated to get so excited about the show because I KNOW how difficult it will be to break back into this community after having been gone so long. I get it. But I just did get excited. The show would have been fun, but being with the cast and forming new friendships and spending time doing SOMETHING with my life…that was the real appeal. But ok. Ok. Onwards and upwards.

Thanks for the well wishes and good lucks and fuck off’s. You guys are the best!

I did get some great feedback from the directors who asked me to please come back and audition for their next shows. They specifically asked me to come audition for Forbidden Broadway. So that was nice. They didn’t have to spend any extra time giving me extra pats and they really did.

Seems like I had more to blither on about…alas…outta my head. Have a great day!
