I am feeling very intellectual and grown up tonight. So I thought I’d write about it because the feeling will soon dissipate and I’ll be doing Facebook stalking before we know it.
Tonight was the first, well MY first meeting of the book club. I went to the B&N that was the site of my going bananas yesterday, and sat at a table and drank overpriced coffee and waxed prophetically about a book that I’m only 23 pages into. HA! Remember folks, I’m an Actor/English Major so I can pretty much bullshit my way through anything AND use big words to further prove my intelligence.
I am in a group with ALL English teachers. Some still practicing, some retired. I am the youngest, if you don’t count the 3 month old grandchild that sat in tonight. I met four new people and got to know more about my neighbor, so that counts as five. The club meets every other Tuesday night at 6pm and goes for about an hour or just a little over. Thus far, there aren’t many who are just in love with the book. Not the Niles and Daphne kind of love. Maybe it will come with more reading. We’ll see.
But the thing is, I think they LIKED ME!! I felt antsy about doing this, something so new with total strangers. I even for a moment thought about just blowing it off and watching my DVR’s eps of True Blood (which I haven’t started yet but will do when I finish this) I’m glad I didn’t. I had some good things to say, and made a few valid points and when I felt like maybe things were winding down and losing interest, I threw in the fact that I’m going to New York on Saturday and they all thought I was very important and cool.
Ha. Suckers!!!
I think this will prove to be another grand adventure that will provide lots of blogging material, so stay tuned.
In other news, Mgirl cut my hair today. I have a BOB!!! Finally! The hair has grown to a length that looks normal and not like the aftermath of a tragic weed eater incident. I am very proud.
Time is drawing near to start working on travel details. Emails have been flowing between Chrome, Kizz and myself. Of course I’m all about when and where do we get to eat and what shows do I get to see. . . and the hair class. Getting very excited about learning something new to bring back for my clients. We’re going to do a makeshift salon on Monday evening probably, and cut some hair. My friend Seth, who I met thru the redhead, has moved there and will be joining the Kitchen Cut group as well.
This time last year, I was frazzled. I’d just really moved into the Frontier and was still spinning and figuring out my life and I remember it was all based around the NY trip. “When I get to NY…When I get back from NY” What an amazing year it’s been.
Ok, I think the coffee buzz is wearing off a little. I’m going in to settle down and move some laundry around off the couch, feed the livestock and watch some tv. Yes, I know I should be doing some reading but hell, I’ve got two weeks before the next deadline. (ever the English major…never read today what you can cram in the night before!)
Hope you had a great day. I love you. And I love George Clooney. Seriously, go see the movie. He’s a twisted little tweeker in it and I love him even more.

True Blood…can’t even tell you! So glad your going to watch it. We can share together. Love it! Big fat love! Sookie! A Bob! You have hair. Can’t wait to see it. Face book stalking… made me laugh. So glad about the book club. Of course they love you. As do I.

Congratulations on your book club! One of the things you need is a good list of books to use — that will give direction to your book club. When I started attending a book club the first question I wanted answered was, what book should we read??I am a total library junkie – I am there 4 days in a week! I would usually scour the library shelves and see what jumps out, until I found this reading journal called “Read, Remember, Recommend” from http://www.bibliopages.com — it’s just this great little resource with Awards Lists (including the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction, Los Angels Times Award for Fiction and National Book Award for Fiction), Notable lists (Oprah’s book club is one of them) and Author Pages. It even has an area for your favorite authors and for valuable reading insights. It’s really helped organize the reading for my book club. (I’ve finished half of the Awards list) Check it out – managing a book club becomes so much more enjoyable with it.You gotta get ahold of this reading journal! 🙂 Again it’s at http://www.bibliopages.com. Good luck with your book club and I hope this helps.
