Bits of Bliss and Sunshine
Had a great time Monday with Wonderboy. . . other than the fact that I tried my best to kill him! Here’s a small list of the damage:
He was jumping off the edge to me, I was catching. Pretty common pool game. Well in one jump, I scratched the wahoo out of his leg. Seriously folks, I felt his skin under my nail. Yuk.
He was trying to dunk me, and as a Wonderboy is want to do, got a little rough. He had a handfull of my hair and was basically choking me out trying to get me under. Now, it wasn’t that hard. I was going under easliy to let him “win”. HE however, was kicking my butt, so I reached around to get his hands off my neck and to try to get some air, aaaaaaaaaand poked him in the eye and scratched his face. Damnit!
Then it was time for a wee break and some snot medicine for his snot. I gave him a capfull of the red stuff and tried to give him another and he said “woah no no no.” I think, hell, he doesn’t feel bad, the snot is ok, not green, and he’s on vacation. No second capfull.” and off we go back into the water. Come to find out, I gave him FIVE times the amount he takes. HOLY SHIT!!! No worse for the wear on that one though.
Then, after the day is done, I see his little face and shoulders turning red. Apparently the sunscreen that I so religiously put on, streaked out in the water. FRIED my kiddo. No blisters, and while he was warm, not hurting. Sis and I were burnt worse than that in our lifetime, but it sucks when it happens on your watch. Ugh.
We had a great time. He’s back home in the Arkansas celebrating Mamo’s 60th birthday today. Happy birthday Mom! Hope it’s a great one!
And to you, I’m loving the life here on Dublin Road. Still waiting for the Garcias’ to come mow and work magic in the yard, but other than that, no worries. All is well. Looking forward to the Harry Potter this weekend. SLURP. Kizz has her reunion this weekend as well, and I believe Clemo is another year wiser. Lots of good stuff happening.
Huzzuah and Happy Wednesday! Everyday above ground is a good one, eh?
The Lazy Hazy Crazy Days of Summer

It’s hot. Hot and time for the pool. We did Purple Pool yesterday afternoon, and oh my GOD, it was therapy. Good sun, the water felt divine, cold beer, it was the best. We soaked it all up until about 7, then home. I was in the bed by 8:30, and frankly, it felt great!! I’m livin’ la vida single this week, as Phil is en route to West Virginia to see his mama for a week. Me and the cats, and to be perfectly honest, we’re having the best time.
Today is another pool day for me. I’m taking Wonderboy to a pool for the afternoon, well, a few hours anyway. It’s his last day of “ba-cation” and we’re doing it up right and proper. Swimming, then possibly a showing of Ratatoullie, then the last swim lession tonight at 5:30, then to Bricktown to dinner and walking around and riding the horse drawn carriage around for the grande finale! I took the morning off work tomorrow, so I can party it up tonight!
I’m off to find some kind of swim toys/diving thingys for us to play with today.
Huzzuah!
Pretty sure this made my day.

My Summer Entertainment
I am not a fan of summertime t.v. at all. I’ll occasionally get sucked into something and ride it out…Rob and Big. Funny. Gene Simmons. Funny. The British food guy who does Dinner Impossible or whatever it is. Love it. Pretty much anything on the Food Channel, Discovery, or A&E. But the reality/competition stuff, I’ve tried! Seriously!! It’s just not in my DNA to love it. It is what it is. However…
I’ve been reading a lot this summer. I did the latest Stephanie Plum, Lean Mean Thirteen. (Kizz, I’ll get it to ya after I get it back from Mom.) I did the 6th Women’s Murder Club mystery by James Patterson. To both of those I say,”ehhhh. . . “
I started working on a Vince Flynn spy/espionage/shoot em up thing. Slow going, not my kind of read, but ok. There were a few others in there that I’ve already forgotton.
Two days ago, a girl at work was reading a book and I asked if I could have it when she was finished. It’s been out awhile, I’ve seen it in the magazines on the top whatever lists of good books, just never picked it up. Well,I just finished it and holy crap. It’s one of THOSE. I highly reccommed The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini.
A-Maze-Ing.
I can’t sleep, my head is full, my emotions are tight. I know he’s published a new one this summer and I want it tomorrow. I want to talk about it. Have any of you read it? Run don’t walk. It’s harrowing, and warm, and stark and just freakin impressive. I would love to write like him. Sigh.
I’m going to try to sleep now. Ha. I have an 11 hour day tomorrow, so this post will probably have to do. I’m dying to have someone to bookclub this thing with!
Lovett or Leave It

Something has happened to my blog, where it wouldn’t let me post for a few days?? Finally had time to delve into it and for whatever reasons, I deleted the correct stuff and voila! Here we go.
Lyle was Saturday. What a night! Here’s Ten Things Wednesday on that topic.
10.) We all got in free. Joe even scored a VIP pass to the air conditioned bathrooms! oooooooooooh!!!
9.) Gert and I got there to do “work” and guard the beverages around 3:30. Hotter-n-ass outside. We’re sweating like whores in church. All that is made easier by being 20 feet away from the man when he did his warm up. He sang Bears, which he didn’t do in the concert. Pretty cool.
8.) Apparently Mr.Lovett had some “requests” that weren’t sitting well with the venue, such as, no beer/drinks sold in the VIP area while he was onstage. No MEAT products sold while he was performing. OH and the security people were told not to let ANYONE get up who was sitting in the VIP section while he was singing. Somewhere there was a breakdown in communication with his people and the venue people. That was ridiculous, in my opinion. Don’t punish the people who paid EXTRA MONEY TO GET CLOSER TO YOU!!! Dude. The workers were calling him the Old Man with a stick up his butt. Notta lotta love for Mr. Lovett in the OKC.
7.)Frozen Wine drinks. After sitting in the hot sun all day, they opened the frozen Oklahoma wine stand. Hominahominahomina. SO GOOD. . .
6.) so good that after about 4 and not even being close to a brain freeze I had a total meltdown. Tears. Love. Pouring. Bwhaaaaaaaaaaa. Little stressed out with life these days, dealing with a big load of crappola and while sitting under the stars, listening to K.D. Lang (who was AWESOME and barefoot) I lost it. niiiiiiiiice.
5.)More frozen wine drinks. For EVERYBODY!!! Huzzuah! I cannot tell you how hot it was and how cold those were and how freakin good and drunk it got me! good. grief.
4.)Joe got off work from the movie just in time to kop a squat, lend a dollar and a shoulder AND bought Gert and myself glow in the dark necklace thingies!!! What a guy, I tell ya, what a guy.
3.) Dancing down front with Gert. (we were not VIP so were allowed to get up and move about the cabin.)
2.) Getting hit on by some guy down front, and at the time I was flattered. He said he was in the “music business” and we danced around a bit. On the way out of the venue he walked passed me and shoved a card into my hand. He works for CD Warehouse!!! Bwa ha ha ha ha
1.) CHURCH was the finale. Rockin’ and rollin’ and whatnot. So GOOD!!! It’s time for dinner now let’s go eat!! It was a great evening.
0.) and then we got in the car and Gert drove me to a quiet neighborhood where I vomited all out of my system and I went home and was asleep with 90210 eps on the tv by midnight.
HUZZUAHHHH and curse the Oklahoma Wine!! CURSE IT!!!
God Bless America//Chicago~Chi-FLOP-oh

Happy Fourth of July Everybody!!! Here’s to fireworks. Here’s to friends. Here’s to the land we love and hawks making lazy circles in the sky.
Went to the America/Chicago concert tonight.
Now, admittedly, I’m not the America aficionado that some may be. Pretty much I know the Horse With No Name. And that was the encore. But whatever. They were there, they were upright, they were singing their four hundred year old asses off. I can get behind all of that.
I got to the venue about 3:30 in the hot ass afternoon. It’s feast or famine here folks. 20 straight days of rain, and today, four thousand degrees. I’m sunburned. But whatever. I get there, to do my “work” for my free ticket. All this consisted of was sitting in the sun, sitting by a beverage booth while it was being stocked, and reading an espionage novel. This took about 3 or more hours. Right on. So it’s time to cop a squat, and I find the best seats. (this is where we’ll be for LYLE on Saturday, mind you.) and after awhile a few others join in. My girl who hooked me up, that also is our daytime bartender, comes by and touches base bla bla bla. Fine. She leaves and the guy next to me says…
“is that your daughter?”
The FUCK?
she’s a year older than me, come to find out.
I’m looking into some sort of surgery come Monday.
But that is a whole ‘nuther post. I digress.
America. Rock on. They were fine. Just fine. I’m somewhat excited for Chicago though. I know they are four million years old, but damn Gina, there was that Chicago 17 album that rocked my Jr. High experience so I’m waiting for that.
Here’s the deal. When you’ve made an entire career of singing in the highest falsetto/tenor voice you can possibly sing in, there will come a day when that is not possible anymore.
That day is July 3rd, 2007.
Good honk. The band is sadly diminished. Peter Cetera? I can only hope he’s suffering from the Old Timers’ because he stood behind his Casio all night long and mumbled out introductions. . . and tried to rhyme.
They have this 20 something/30 something tenor/falsetto singer that covers ALL the songs sung like that. And he’s not so bad, but he starts that bob and weave bit with the mic and frankly folks….just go listen to your albums, your cd’s, your iPod. Whatever. If I’d paid for this ticket, I’d be so pissed. As it is, I’m just underwhelmed. It’s like going to see the Stones and watching Doogie Houser sing I Can’t Get No Satisfaction.
Chicago/Chi-FLOP-o.
That’s what I have to say about that.
We bitch about the old people still driving those cars around. I think the point should move to the bands still trying to work one more ounce of the glory days out of the career. I’m not saying they should quit making music, feeding their soul, all of the good stuff that comes from the art. I’m just saying, quit with the touring.
That’s my rant on that topic.
Here’s to all of you. Living in this great land. Enjoy your day. Eat a hot dog or something not meaty and processed. Watch Will Smiff kick some aliens’ butt’s. Set off some firecrackers. Have a good day.
Ten Things Tuesday: things in my head

There is a whole bunch of nothing up here, rolling around, taking up good thinking space. I thought I’d try to get some of it out, so that I may be able to do a better list next week.
10) Thinking about money. A Lot. Wanting to get the NYC trip covered, which I think is done. Want to figure out what I make, and can afford so that I may
9) Buy a house. It’s something that is one hundred percent going to happen in my future. I’d like for it to happen by the end of the year.
8.) Summer reading. I finished the latest Evanovitch…LeanMeanThirteen. Ehhhhh.
7.) Summer weather….am jones’ing for it right now. Woke up this mornin’ to more clouds.
6.) Thinking about a road trip. to anywhere.
5.) Thinking about the clothes I need to iron for this morning.
4.) Concerts…tonight I’m going to the Chicago/America concert. Saturday, it’s Lyle Lovett/K.D. Lang. Verra excited bout that one.
3.)People are on my mind. Chrome. MarriedJason. My Papa in Granite who’s just gone away with the Alzheimer’s. Kylee from work.
2.) I need a pedicure. My heels, no matter how I keep them maintained, still crack from standing all day. Bleagh.
1.) I got a billion more plants from BonusMom this weekend. Mums/Lambs Ear. Need to get that stuff in the ground tomorrow.
So…see. Nothing groundbreaking, nothing earth shattering. Nothing that should impede my writing abilities. Just a bunch of stuff. Hopefully this made some room.
monday flop day
really have done nothing of substance today. Didn’t go to WW to weigh in, for the second week in a row. This on the heels of Kizz’s MF-ing post and success. I’m a flop. Did lunch with the fam again, said goodbye to Sis et.al. Home for laundry and cleaning and some quasi-napping. Got caught up on my 90210 reruns and some old Gilmore’s. Dinner was grilled everything and a cold Miller Lite. Have I told you I’ve somewhat switched the flavor of beer I drink? I enjoy the ML and it does have less calories and carbs so. . . . totally falls under the can’t hurt/might help column.
So that’s it for me. Now I’m sleepy. My week is work tomorrow till 4, then to the zoo amphitheatre to “work” for a few hours so I can see the Chicago/America concert for free. Phyllis is meeting me there. We’re off on Wed, but will be more than likely doing a cookout/drinkfest at the bar. I work Thurs/Fri/Sat. Wonderboy returns next week for swimming lessons. Hold on for more on THAT note. I’m sure at some point they will all be just HORRRRRRRRIBLE!!! (though to his credit, he got a lil burn from a firework last night which prompted the meltdown. ahhhhhh.)
and I have no idea what to do for Ten Things tomorrow. flop.
